I actually just bought a bunch of ribbon and it smelled too....

The most horrible smell....smells almost like lighter fluid/gasoline/kerosene.

Craziness.....I don't understand how ribbon can get this smell? I also don't understand how businesses can sell ribbon that smells like this.

I could smell it before I even started unrolling it.....as I started unrolling--the smell got worse.

I'm not sure what to do....I don't want to wash the ribbon because I'm afraid the dots will come off or something like that.

Besides.....I shouldn't have to do anything to it before using it....this is just crazy!

I had some that smelled like chemical/lighter fluid once. I think it was actually from the dye used in the ribbon. I just left it out to air for a few days and then gave it a quick spray with the clorox brand of stuff like Febreeze since I can't stand the smell of Febreeze. It took care of it just fine.

I don't know.....I've never gotten ribbon that smelled like this.

I've got a huge order to fill that needs to go out this coming week and I'm not even sure I have time to let it dry.

I am going to set it outside, though...I'm about to literally PASS OUT from the smell.

I still just don't understand how the ribbon can get this smell? I wonder if the area where they keep their ribbon smells like this? I swear---it will literally knock you out--the smell, that is.

Where did you get it from? I am about to buy some ribbon and want to make sure that I don't buy from who you bought from! PM me if you don't want to post it.

Good luck.

alot of the smell come from the manufacturing process... most of the ribbon we use is a poly or nylon or a blend...these are all petroleum products... when these things are made the whole plant smells like gas/oil/burning ribbon and various other lovely ingredients that you REALLY dont wanna know about... needless to say it is made, wound on a roll, bagged, then boxed and sent to a distributor, who then will maybe unbox it and only open the sealed bags when needed to be bagged/boxed with other colors in your order, sealed in a box shipped to you to be opened.... and what do you get a odourous miasma of STENCH...

I Just got a big order from UB... it had the stangest odd smell to it when I opened it... I have a really sensitive sense of smell and I got the petroleum smell, a pesticide, a perfume, and pine.... really odd... NASTY but odd.... so I unboxed it an let it sit....that was 4 days ago... I pulled some of it to use an most of the smell has gone away... and I figure as I make mthings and the ribbon sits out in the creating process more of the smell will go away....before I mail anything I will give them a good sniffing... if there is anything yucky after that I will give it a good shot of febreeze an sniff again after it dries.... so far I havent had a problem and this has happened to me before.
