Default Tubular Cord for Headbands - FINAL UPDATE

Okay, girls... this is it! Samples have been mailed to everyone on my list. Test them with your heat-sealing tool of choice, experiment, etc., and please share your results here. I spread samples around as best I could, but no one is getting everything (and some samples are tiny) - sorry, some of the factories were really stingy.

Unless you need LOTS of tubular cord, shoelaces from www.shoelacesexpress.com may be your most realistic choice. Be sure to order the longest (72") length.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vendor: www.shoelacesexpress.com (Glennville, GA)
Product: 1/2" Wide Flat Tubular Athletic Shoelaces - samples are light pink

They're made in USA, possibly by one of the following manufacturers:

Manufacturer: Rhode Island Textile Company
Product: tubular braid (12 types) - samples are light gray, all different sizes

Manufacturer: Elastic Cord and Webbing (East Dundee, IL)
Product: tubular braid - samples are green, navy, and black-and-white

Manufacturer: St. Louis Braid (MO)
Product: tubular braid - samples are white

Manufacturer: National Webbing (Plainview, NY)
Product: tubular braid - samples are black

Manufacturer: ELC Industries/Rice Braid (Rock Hill, SC)
Product: tubular braid - assorted

Good luck, have fun, and most of all... THANK YOU!

And... they look sweeeeeeet on a 1/2" headband! Good luck sealing the ends, though.

Colors are limited, but this is the best source I have found so far for tubular cord in small quantities.

Got mine today! Here are pics of 2 different kinds:

Black: Is a flat, non-stretchy, 3/8" cording. I sampled it on my MH-04 headbands from HP. It slides on SUPER easy and I love the flat look compared to the tubular look of some of the others. I just used my lighter to heat seal the end and it worked fine.

Some cons could be that it looks a lot like grosgrain ribbon, so wouldn't be as fancy if you wanted something like that. It's also 3/8" wide, so it would just depend on the look you wanted if you liked it that wide or wanted to keep it close to the headband size. (Maybe there are thinner of that??)

Grey: Tubular cording that is the size of the headband, around 1/4". It didn't slide on as easily, but it wasn't very hard either. The ends really split, but I sealed them with the lighter and that worked well for this too. I like the more flat look of the black, however, the grey fits the width of the ribbon so is not going to make the headband look thicker.

That's about all I can notice with the little strips of samples Thanks Dede for sending them! Both would be SO much quicker than lining the headbands, but you could still use the sealah tape for satin if you wanted a more dressy look.

I should clarify something:

Some of the samples I received are just a few inches long (not enough for more than one person). These skimpy samples all happen to be very narrow, and since princess_stinkypants_mom has a lot of metal headbands, she got them:

1. Leftover cord from a special factory run (National Webbing): black, narrow, NOT stretchy.

2. Assorted types and colors from Rice Braid (polyester versions of the nylon samples I sent out a few weeks ago).

All the other samples were divided evenly among the other six people on my list (seven people all together). I kept a pink shoelace from Shoelace Express, but that's it - everything else went out!

I got in my package and will be testing this weekend. I'll get pictures up asap.

I'll be testing with my clover mini quilting iron.

Great! I'm really curious how it will perform. The factory reps all said polyester is the best fiber for this application, but poly requires a lower heat so the ends will melt together properly.

Oops... almost forgot... **THANK YOU**princess_stinkypants_mom, for your excellent demonstration! I don't know how much of the black "grosgrain" cord the factory actually has left, but maybe they're willing to negotiate a good price just to get rid of it. And that's assuming even a good price isn't high enough to make you choke.
