Perfect timing! A couple of days ago mamabrandy posted a link to a tutorial for car seat strap covers:

Car Seat Strap Covers

Just that day I had gone and bought a new Triumph for my 9 month old! I was surprised to see it did not come with strap covers. I put Ellery in it anyway and she immediately got red marks on the sides of her neck from the straps, so I was planning to make covers. I was going to just wing it, but then saw the tutorial!

Pink & brown damask on one side, reverses to dark pink minky dot on the other! And I actually made friends with bias tape! I finished the first one, held it out for my DH to see and said, "I always thought bias tape and I were mortal enemies! Turns out we were just acquaintances who needed to spend more time together!" He laughed and asked where I had heard that from. Apparently he thinks I'm not original OR funny! I do have a weird sense of humor. BTW, if anyone else has trouble with bias tape, I would highly recommend taking a peek at the tutorial and seeing how they say to do it.

Have you tried it the way the tutorial shows? Using the double fold you open it up ALL the way, line one edge up with the edge of your fabric and sew it as close as possible to the first fold line. Then fold it around your fabric and handstitch or machine stitch. I machine stitched through all layers, catching both sides of the bias tape and the material in between.

The only other way I have been successful with bias tape is to use the binding attachment that came with my ancient machine (I have an industrial Singer from the 50's). But you can only use the really skinny bias tape with that attachment.
