I wouldn't go with the Cricut, honestly you'd be much better off with a machine like the PAZZLES. With the Cricut you will be limited to buying cartridges and in the long run thats going to cost you a whole lot more than purchasing another machine. With the Pazzles or a cutter different from the Cricut you can cut just about any thing you can imagine. If you want to cut a font you are going to pay about 40.00 for that one font. With other machines you can cut just about any font you can download to your computer. Right now with the Pazzles promo it the best price point for a machine that is most like the Cricut.

SCAL, FAIRY CUT and MAKE THE CUT no longer work with the Cricut. I have never really liked Design Studio, I find it lacking. Also, if you want to do other fabric decoration, besides HTV (heat transfer vinyl), rhinestones and applique, Get a different machine.

The Cricut isn't a bad machine, its just the software-cartridges are very limiting. I have 2 but without the above mentioned software, they would have been ditched.

I have 6 different cutters (some women like shoes, some cutters) from 6" to 34". Be glad to answer any questions.

If you want to get input on cutter options and see a wide variety of projects, check out this forum. http://forum.make-the-cut.com/. This site promotes make the cut software, but you'll see there's a whole world beyond the Cricut.

I have two Cricut machines. I use the SCAL program. I don't buy cartridges. SCAL does still work with the Cricut machine. However if you upgrade the Cricut then that upgrade does not work with SCAL. I have not and will not upgrade for that reason. I'd rather do without a few small fixes to be able to use SCAL.
I love my Cricut and use it for paper, fabric and vinyl.

I have version 2.012 . If I were to upgrade it to the latest version then it will not work. So of course I won't do that. This version will work forever. If you buy a new machine it has been programmed to not work with SCAL.
My cricut is several months old so I got it before they messed things up! LOL

Actually, if you didn't purchase Make the Cut, before 3/16, SCAL before 4/16 or Fairy Cut before 6/12, (my dates may be a little off on the latter two, you cannot purchase a version of the software that works with the cricut. The lawsuits made the cricut compatable software vendors to cease sales. Lucky you, be sure to back up your copy.If you have an older trial version of the Make the Cut software, do not update to the new version. There's a work around to keep the Cricut driver. I have saved my SCAL and Make the Cut in several formats. I just don't want anyone to purchase the cricut thinking that the software is avaliable.

So I worded my post incorrectly, yes the software still works if you already own a working copy, but you can no longer purchase the older versions from the vendors.

Fortunity, the software does work with several other cutters
