I really want to get a embroidery/monogramming machine, but they are so expensive....can anyone recommend an inexpensive but good starter machine...or does anyone know of any great deals...I am looking around, but I don't know much about these machines

My only piece of advice is get the machine that has the biggest hoop you can afford. You will quickly outgrow the 4 x 4 hoop. I thought I wouldn't when I got my first machine and I found out real fast that there was so much I wanted to do and couldn't because of the small hoop size.
You can always do small designs with a big hoop but you can't (easily) do big designs with a small hoop.

Here are the things I looked for:

* Larger hoop than 4x4
* Digitizing software
* Ability to use all my cute computer fonts as embroidery fonts

Good luck with your search!

Go to Bernina Usa website and see if they have any special offers. My Bernina was just over 1200.00, but comes with extra hoops. The software is around a 1000.00, which is so worth it.

I have a singer quantum.. I got the digitizing software too.. The machine threads itself and automatically switches colors at the tap of a button.. It automatically winds its bobbins in the middle of a design too.. It is an awesome machine but one thing i do not like is its digitizing software.. I would recommend another program. there is no help whatsoever for the software. the manuals do not tell you much. But as for the machine itself it is great.

If you have a Husqvarna Viking Dealer near you, they are having great specials this weekend for Memorial Day.
They don't really advertise the prices but it might be worth checking out.

We have a larger Joann ETC near us that has the Husqvarna dealer right inside. If you have a larger Joann near you they may have one too.
Plus when you buy the Husqvarna machines , they offer free classes you can take as many times as you like for up to a year.
