~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I need some help!! I lined a bunch of clips with ribbon and used Fabri-Tac because I've used hot glue and I hate how bumpy the ribbon gets. Then after it dried for 24 hours the ribbon started coming off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work or another product that would work better than fabri-tac?? Thanks for your help. I've enjoyed all your insights and talent already!!
Is there a certain brand of hot glue that is better than another? I have Surebond (I think, It is "sure" something) the same brand that my glue gun is. And, do I need to let the glue "cure" or something before I use it or add embellishments? I had a lined alligator clip that I bought from someone and I tried very hard to take the ribbon off so that I could see more of what kind of clip was used, I could NOT get it off the clip. Then I had a clip that I had lined (using hot glue) and then tried to take the ribbon off to see how good it had stuck and it very easily pulled off. I do have e6000 and could use it on the edges if that would be recommended. I want my clips to be sturdy and well made, but I'm very new at this and not too sure of the tricks of the trade, yet. I'm sure trial and error are par for the course, but any more advice on this subject would be great.
Also, the back of my glue stick bag says it is for fabric AND metal, but says it is a high temp stick (not dual temp). Maybe I need to work on getting the ribbon affixed faster after applying the glue to the clip. I'm sure that comes with practice.
I had trouble with the surebonder glue as well.......and I had to stop using it for the same reason.
Here's what I have learned so far.... Your glue needs to be in a thin layer and go out all the way to the edge of the ribbon so no part can be pulled off. Wendy reccomended the Ad Tech Multi temp. They can be found at Wallmart. They work great. The front of the package says for high temp or low temp bonding of wood, glass, metal, florals, fabric, and foam. (The rhinestones I put on did not stay on with this, probably because they are plastic) Liz reccomended the Aleene's All purpose glue sticks, they are a lot more expensive but they work really well too! These held the plastic rhinestones as the package says its for use with ceramic, glass, fabric plastic floral, paper and wood. Lots of people also swear by the e600 but I can't use it as the smell really bothers me. It will set off a migrane for me. I think it is also not non-toxic and my little one puts EVERY LITTLE THING in her mouth so I feel safer using stuff that is non toxic. Hope some of this helps
