I bought a really cheap kit at Michael's last week. It was by Dritz and was called the Start-to-quilt kit with a quilting ruler, small cutting mat and rotary cutter. Michael's was clearancing them out for $5.59. There was no price on the shelf, but they scanned for that price. I haven't tried out the rotary cutter yet, but for that price, why not try it? Here is what the kit looks like:

The mat was smaller (9x12 I think?)
