I guess it depends on the return policy etc, and also the model. I also know that if you want different lenses they can be pretty expensive. How old are the models in question? I'm only asking because I know that canon have a T3 rebel (or something like that) that sells new for $599 with a regular lens on amazon, so I don't know if you want to pay half of that on the body alone that might be a few years old. I also know that my hubby has 2 old canon rebels that are about 6 years old that both crapped out at the same time, and it would cost a minimum of $190 to fix each one. I would just be really careful.
Have you checked amazon's prices? They're often cheaper and depending on where you live, they may not charge sales tax and you can probably get free shipping.
To be honest, I used to have a canon powershot (it was the sx series I think with a pretty good zoon), and I loved that. I only stopped using it because the display thingie broke, and I replaced it with a panasonic lumix because of the awesome price and the fact that I can just stick it in my pocket.
Unless you are prepared to invest a bit, I would probably go with a powershot with a decent zoom on it.

the only way i would is if you know a photographer that could go with you to test it out to make sure it is working good, my dad has gotten some of his cameras from a pawn shop and also the different lenses too but he knows alot about the cameras.

You might find good deals at pawn shops on DSLR's but one of the important things to know is that each camera brand has a number of "clicks" or accuations its good for. So it might have been used a lot and is near its end for that. I know DSLR's can be expensive, but unless youre deciding to buy one to really get into photography, or if its to get really good photographs for your products there are really good point and shoots that can take super quality shots that are much easier to use. DSLR's are more about the type of lenses you use. The kit lenses they come with are good for really basic things but beyond that you buy lenses and they are so expensive, trust me..lol! Todays point and shoot cameras are amazing and for the price without buying lenses are great. Please feel free to msg me to ask me questions if you like! Hope this helps

Check out this website http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/. They have every kind of camera there. This is were I found the camera I want and I'll be ordering it from Adorama. I would rather buy new or by refurbished from an actual photograpy company than a pawn shop. I would check the return policy if that is where you want to get a camera from. HTH.

Wait till Christmas. I got my canon for 350.00 on Black Friday and I Love it. I don't know that I would trust a pawn shop camera. But that's just me. try Kmart and see what they have cause they still have layaway there you could maybe pay for it over 2 months.

I don't know that I would chance it...like a PP said, I would definitely check the return policy. I have a Sony DSLR and I purchased it directly from Sony for over half off...it was refurbished and last years model so they were clearing them out. They are constantly coming out with new cameras...so if you aren't in a rush you could possibly just keep an eye out for a deal similar to mine. Hope you are able to find what you are looking for!

an SLR is the best investment I've made. I purchased a Cannon Rebel T2i and I love it! it's replaced my point & shoot and it take great pictures outdoors as well as indoors. It's my go to camera for EVERYTHING now. Cannon & Nikon are the best IMHO.
