Question Polymer Clay Oven - HELP!

Hi

Have any of you have used a polymer clay oven? I recently purchased one from Joann's... After I turn it on for 10 min for preheat... The oven was smoking and it smelled like burn...filled up my whole living room.

I turned it off immediately.. then later tried it again. The same thing happened. I took the oven back to Joann's.. The cashier said this is normal which I kind of doubt it still.

For those who have experience with this, is it normal?

Anyone can recommend me a Polymer Clay oven?

Thanks in advance!
Naomie

I use my normal oven for baking my clay so I don't have a specific recommendation...but I know you can use any old toaster oven. It doesn't have to be a special one made for clay or crafts. If it can bake at 250 or whatever temp you need, it should work great

Yep! Its only harmful if you go up higher than the temperature stated on the package....or if you burn it! Just make sure you use a pan specially for clay and clean your oven periodically! I also cover my pan with foil just to be even safer

My biggest tip, get an oven thermometer and make sure the oven keeps consistent and even temp, if it spikes it could burn the clay.

I bought a little toaster oven from Walmart for 20 bucks, the Duraband brand and I only use it for clay and shrinky dinks!

I went looking for a toaster oven today to bake clay in, Kmart has one on sale right now for $12.99, a whole lot cheaper than the $49.99 on at HL.
