Yeah, wondering the same thing (I use a lighter as well). Just started trying spikes, and using the lighter about drove me crazy (trying to cut them correctly drove me halfway there, but that's another story...)

I feel your pain... literally. Lighter & glue gun are dangerous enough for me.

I have used them all and prefer using a lighter. I have burnt my fingers a few times though! Oh well, I guess it is all in bow making.

I use a lighter except when doing korkers, which I use the fraycheck.

I just switched to clear nail polish and LOVE it. I've tried a lighter and could get the edges as nice as I like them. I've used fray check for a long time but hate waiting for it to dry. A friend told me that she uses clear nail polish. I gave it a try for the first time on some V spikes. They came out perfect, and it was so easy to just brush it on. No mess.

With the V cuts...I leave them folded and then run the lighter across....seems to work well...

I used to use clear nail polish too! I have a wood burner and for cutting korker, it's the way to go for me.

WOODBURNER!!!! I guess it depends on what you are making. I do a lot of butterflies and it's great for the antenna! Plus I love that I can cut and seal all in one step. I can make my things in half the time now. I haven't burned myself....yet
