if you find you cant control the angled tip wel enough to get in the center of the triangle... try changing the tip to the pointy bit one... its alot narrower an you can slide it in to the middle without it biting into the ribbon

I used to use a candle or a lighter, but I'm skurred of fire, so I changed to a woodburner. I only use the woodburner and glue gun when the kids are asleep or when dad's here to keep them out of the basement. Of course, that doesn't account for my goofiness - the woodburner was too close to the glue gun yesterday & melted a chunk of the handle. It smelled wild!

Oh man, I brought a woodburner and I am so scared to use it. I plug it in and just could not get the hang of it. Too scared I am going to burn myself,so its back to the old lighter!

I started out using fray check. Didn't like the way it showed on some ribbon. Went to using a lighter. Liked it, but still couldn't get those perfectly straight edges. So I bought a woodburner and love it. Now the only time I use the lighter is if I just need to seal up a few things fast. And the only time I use fray check is if I'm working with cotton ribbon or trims. Since cotton will burn, not melt, if you use the woodburner on it. Oh and I've noticed that my first bows that I used fray check on are fraying now. Guess that stuff doesn't last forever.

I bought a wood burner and it almost seemed to shrivel up my ribbon if I wasn't quick enough-does that make sense? I think I had the wrong tool on it at first and switched to the exacto knife looking one, but the lighter just seems to be so much easier and quicker for me.

I've been using a lighter, but think I may have to swipe DH's woodburner out of the garage.

I have tried them each and I still prefer a lighter. Fray check is like waiting for paint to dry and for me the woodburner takes more time (maybe I don't have the right technique). It is very easy for me to snip and heat with the lighter.

Creative Hotmarks is the burner I have. I worked with it a little bit yesterday6 and it gets real hot but it did not heat seal the ribbon as well as I would have liked it to. I was using the blade tip. Am I doing something wrong or is this brand woodburner not a very good one?

Also, those of you that use a flame to seal your bows...how do you get it to seal evenly without it looking warped? How do you seal spiker "V" cuts?

I prefer the woodburner when doing a lot at once; otherwise the lighter.
