Default Gator bite question

When using the gator bite, do you have to use the ribbon that they supply? Or can you use your own thread or wire?

Okay, that's what I was wondering. I'm thinking of buying one, but just got to thinking that if you HAVE to use a specific ribbon from that company, that could be a pain. Thanks!

I used to use 1/8 inch ribbon but now i sew mine while the gator bite holds them in place and i use upholstery thread.
