Wish I could help. It's been a long time since I had a home one.
I have an industrial one.
I would be sure and get one that you can change down to a 3 spool.

i have a simplicity, and i wouldn't consider sewing half of what i do without it. i think it is a must. wasn't bad either, around $200.

Mine is a Singer and it's been great! It's a model from the 90s and is my mom's old one. Back in the day it was super nice, and it still runs great. I bought a service manual so I could keep it in good working condition.

I got an awesome deal for the babylock on Ebay!!! Just watch auctions ending really late at night or on weird days (not sunday or thursday) use auction sniper...and you're good to go!!

i always wanted a babylock!!! but , $$$$ anyways, i had singer and i didn't like it.. i didn't like my PFAFF 4852.. now, i have my JUKI SERGER GARNETT LINE.. IT's PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bought it for $299 on ebay at sewing supply store.. it has great review too.. i always knew JUKI is a good one because i used to own an industrial JUKI serger.. but... i have to say JUKI is better than others and aren't pricey!

I got the Brother 1034D last year and LOVE it!! Oh what a difference it makes... now I'm FAST lolol.... and neat, too

I've checked reviews on the net and there are lovers and haters; I think if you're on a limited budget it's a great machine, if you can afford to spend more then go with a Babylock - I'm limited - budgetwise - so I've added it to my stable of brother machines, and I'm very happy with it.
You can get it on ebay, but I found the best price at WalMart online.

They say in one of the books I bought that you can actually make your own ribbon with it LOLOL haven't tried that, though.

Thanks gals for all the recommendations!!! Now I need info on a nice sewing/embroidery machine and I'll be set. I have my mothers husky and an old Singer, but they are both almost as old as I am......Let's just say they need to be replaced is all!!
