While I have used GemTac before and I do like how it works (for some things) it is a thin glue and you have to have the patience of Job not to touch or move your project while it is drying...I am not usually that patient. I usually use the thicker, gooey-ier FabriTac; while it still takes a while for it to fully dry (cure) like E6000...you can touch it, move it, etc without the gem falling off after a few seconds. And some people love hot glue...as for me...hot glue is NOT my friend

It says washable after 24 hours. It also says it is fast drying so not to delay in bonding surfaces, this I know for sure (work fairly quickly)...it dries fast and will not adhear if you let it sit too long before trying to put your pieces together unlike E6000 which you do need to let sit for a few minutes. It's not really like E6000 as far as drying time, but I like to let it dry for an hour or so before I handle it too "roughly".

I work for Beacon Adhesives, the makers of Gem Tac. I asked our resident glue expert, Mike the Beacon Glue Guy, if he had any words of advice on Gem Tac application. Here is what he said:

"Gem Tac was developed over 50 years ago, specifically to bond non-porous to porous surfaces. It is used in the Disney Costume Department, as well as on the set of Dancing with the Stars, and in the Olympics.

As far as using Fabri Tac for rhinestones, I would advise against it. The Fabri Tac will actually eat into acrylic and plastic stones. Gem Tac is your best bet.

Here are some Gem Tac tips: Make sure your stone backs are clean. Apply a dot of glue onto the back of the rhinestone, and drop it into place. Gently position the stone-don't press so much that the adhesive oozes out and seeps through. Gem Tac dries quickly. It should be ready for washing after 24 hours."

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, you can always email Mike at [email protected]gmail.com

Thanks for using Gem Tac!

Thanks for the post about the "tacs" (my favorite adhesive). I guess I have been very lucky in my use of Fabri-Tac with rhinestones and have not noticed it eating into or fogging my acrylic rhinestones like E6000 does. But I think if advice from the glue expert is not to use it I will stop recommending it to others. I would not want to be responsible for anyone having cloudy rhinestones on their beautiful work. It is nice to hear from the representitives of a company about their products, I know I appreciate it.

Actually, I haven't tried since the last time...

Since gem-tac is very watery, I still have hard time applying a dot to very small surface of my rhinestone. Any tip would be great!

Thanks

I had this issue when I made my wedding veil, very small stones, and the glue would get all over. I started using a toothpick to apply the glue to the stones, and that helped a lot, maybe it will work for you too?

Good luck! Im about to use small stones on my dd and niece's flip flops so I can totally understand!
