If you have the big cricut you can do it fabric side down and use one of the functions that reverses the picture. With the little one, you have to do it face up.

You may want to try using a cardstock paper. I have done with plain paper too, but the cardstock acts as a stabilizer and I tape the paper with the fabric to the mat.

If it is a letter you will need to use a "mirror" function or something like that to reverse it so it doesn't come out backwards.
