I couldn't get it to stay tight while I tied it. Does that make sense?

Me too. The ribbon slipped when I was trying to use it...I promptly sold mine after a couple of weeks of testing out this *wonder* tool!

I use an alligator clip to hole my bow centered while I sew it...

The thing is after I tie it once, I hold it tight and take it out of the gator bite. Then I adjust the bows while still holding it tight. (If I let go at this point the whole thing would open). After I think the loops are even, I tie it a second time - doing it kind of like how you would if you were wrapping a bow on a present - holding down the center with one finger as you make the next knot with your free fingers and pulling tight. I am not bothered if it isn't the tightest at that point since I sew it right after. As long as it has the pinch formation in the center.

I have it and love it but my teeth are also not lining up on mine... Maybe I will give them a call.

I have been using mine for at least a year. I use dental floss to tie mine off. I had trouble with it slipping so now I make a complete loop around & bring both ends of the floss up to the top & the knot holds well that way.
