Default What is the life expectancy of a glue gun?

I've been having some trouble with my glue holding my bow onto the clip. I'm not sure if it is a particular ribbon, my glue gun not getting hot enough any longer, or maybe my glue sticks are bad? I do starch all my bows before attaching my clips. Do you think the starch could be causing the problem with the glue? I've had my glue gun for a while (maybe 6 months) and it is just a cheapy. Do they stop heating as well at some point? I had a more expensive glue gun but hated it. It just spit and sputtered glue everywhere all the time.

My $1.99 glue gun works just fine and I think I had it for about, close to 2 years. I just bought another one, same price (HL) and it's the blue color (not the pink). Bought the expensive one and like you, sputtered like nobody's business. Didn't like it. I just make sure I use high-temp glue sticks.

I have had my gluw gun for a LONG time almost 10 years and I use it almost daily. Good $2 spent. I do find though depending on the material and what I am glueing on that it doesn't hold but its because hot glu is as flexible on certain things. I use e-6000 flexible glue. Micheals for $9.00 and it is amazing stuff. Even holds rubber down.

Well, I guess I can rule out the glue then. I am using the same glue sticks that I always use and it seems to hold fine on some things, but not on others. So, I'm not really sure what the problem is, maybe it is just certain ribbon. I always give all my stuff a "tug" test to make sure they are attached good. I guess that it's a good thing that I test them.

Isn't that weird? I just don't get it. Sometimes I glue something together and it's like Oh crap! I need that back off and that glue isn't budging for anything. And then other times (when you don't want it to) it'll peel right off!
