I am thinking about selling some bows and clips at a fall event in a local town. Since I am just starting to make hair bows I was wondering if the hot glue and fabric tac starts to loose its hold after a few months. If I started making clips (turkeys, bugs Christmas trees etc.) now if they would start falling apart in 9 months from now. Also does anyone have a preference between fabric tac or E 6000 for gluing ribbon together or adding embellishments? Thanks for your input.

Thanks so much for answering! So everyone thinks that if I start making the clips now that the glue (hot glue, E6000, fabric tac) will still hold the ribbon together and also hold to the clip till next fall...and beyond?

I gave my girlfriend's daughter bows 4 years ago and they are still holding strong. The glue gun seems to hold just fine.

I would just make sure you store the bows properly until the show.

I actually prefer to make my bows ahead of time. That way if there are any problems, I can fix them. (I have had some lined clips come undone.. it was due to not even glue) I can fix the problem and learn from my own mistakes.

Lightbulb old glue

When I first started making little clippies I just used old hot glue stick (a couple years old probably) I had laying around. Do NOT use old glue. The lined clips came apart. I now only use HIGH temp hot glue and have not had any problems. That would be embarrassing if things fell apart.

How do you ladies use the glue gun without using too much of the glue?

I noticed that when I use my glue gun, I tend to use too much and I can see a bumpy line on the hair clip (which I hate ).

I squeeze the ribbon after I've pressed it in place. This flattens out the bumps. If you are waiting too long to place the ribbon in place, or using a low or multi temp glue, that will happen also.
