Default Confused with lots of details-help!!

Hi! My name is Astrid and after many years of making bows and then stopping, decided to start selling them. Now, I am sooo confused with what to do in a legal way spending the least amount of $$. Do I need to Register the Company as a Home Office/Home Business with the county? Get a tax id#? What else am I missing? What about when I start a website? I don't want to end up been investigated but also don't want to spend unnecesarily. Thank you ladies!!!

I sell..but I don't have a tx id or a website yet. I don't make enough to justify the expense of either of those. Depends on how much you earning off of your sales.

yea i'm still confuse about that too but I looked up the city and called the business id something and asked and I think from where I am at its still a hobby and as long as I'm not selling it at a store or something then I dont' have to get a tax id..hopes that kinda helps you since i'm still confuse myself....

The craft show that I do, does not require you to have a tax id. Since it is a craft show, the craft show is responsible for reporting the taxes. You have to fill out paper work at the end of show and pay your taxes to the them.

If you do a craft show, you will have to have a Tax ID. I've NEVER had a craft show that collected taxes and then filed them themselves. Every craft show I've done in Texas and Lousiana has required you to have a tax id and for you to handle all your own taxes.

It gets a bit tricky because you have to pay local taxes wherever you sell the item. For example, I was in Lafayette this last weekend and the local taxing authority came and picked up their 4%. It was crazy (never had that happen).

Taxes aren't something you want to mess with. At least Texas is pretty darn serious about collecting their taxes! You definately want to visit with your local Small Business Office to figure out the correct way.

Filing for the tax id was (I think) free. Filing a DBA was 25. It's not an expensive process.
