Default Disappointed in photos?

I am so bummed. I had sent a lot of nice items to be photographed by an Elile Bean model and mommy photograher. Pettskirts, rompers, Easter items, headbands and hats. I received the first round of pics back and I have to admit I am so disappointed The shots are clear and good quality but the model's head is cut off in most- so it is a close up of the item- and not a whole "look". I am not sure if she was having a hard time getting her toddler to give her a good face or what. Honestly I have a good camera and can get close ups of my items myself, I just wanted beautiful modeling photographs done. I am not sure what to do, I HATE confrontation as I am very sensitive myself and do not want to hurt her feelings, yet it is my business we are talking about! Any advice???

Ellie Bean can be hard. I use them a lot... Some of the pictures I have gotten back are OK but not amazing. I try to pick people that have done modeling before and have a good track record - also ones who obviously use pro photogs. Also I like to send a couple small things to a model first and if I like the pictures then send them more stuff (dresses or whatever)

I would ask to reshoot them. Honestly I know it sucks (I'm the same way, don't want to cause waves and/or hurt feelings) but it does state in their Ellie Bean contract aht the boutique may request that you re shoot if the pictures aren't what they wanted.

You probably should also be specific about what you want so that the Mom knows - like full body shots, etc.

Has she emailed you all of the photos? maybe she only included the ones she thought you would like?

I had some trouble getting some shots of a pony tail holder with ribbon streamers.... and I would much rather hear someone tell me they're not completely satisfied so that i can fix it, rather than leave them disappointed in me in the end... I appreciated her honesty because it gave me a chance to reshoot and give her something better, closer to what she wanted.... There were some poses she liked, some that she didn't so i reshot some of the items with different poses. In the end everyone should be satisfied, if you're not, let ellie bean know and they will correct it. It isn't a friend doing you a favor, its a business partner who should provide you with what you're needing. If someone I shot for tells me they're unhappy with the product shots or model shots i would redo them until they were completely satisfied...

As a photographer, I would not be upset being told the photos weren't quite what you were looking for. You have paid for a service (whether it be cash or goods ) and you deserve to be 100% satisfied. Idk what your communication was beforehand regarding expectations, but I don't think its unreasonable at all to come back and ask for different shots.

Absolutely tell her and get the shots you want. She is in a sense "working" for you and you are well within reason to ask for the shots you want. I am a photographer and have taken model photos for people and if ever some one was unhappy, I would much rather them tell me and let me reshoot than burn a bridge.

Thank you so much.
I finally worked up the nerve to let her know that I was looking for full body/and head shots- like the ones I had seen in her modeling portfolio. I told her I loved the quality of the photos, but I needed a whole "look" for the customer to envision what it would look like on their own child. I haven't heard back yet so I am crossing my fingers that the response I get is okay. It is just really puzzling because I saw some photos she had done beforehand and thought they looked great- but these were done very differently. I just hope I haven't hurt her feelings too much....and hope I get the photos I need!

I think you were very tactful. I'm sure it'll be fine!
