I have a Nikon and love it! However you can't wrong with a canon either. 2 of my cousins are professional photographers and one has a Nikon, the other a Canon, so when I did research they were no help lol.
Canon and Nikon are the top 2 brands in the business, so it really boils down to personal preference imo.

I have a d3000 and only use Picnik for editing at the moment b/c I can't afford Photoshop and really don't have time to learn how to use it. I have attached some pics of my kids taken with the d3000 and edited with Picnik. I am sure there is soooo much my camera can do that I just don't know about but I am super happy with it!

You can get Photoshop element from ebay for about $80 I think. I forgot how much I paid for mine. I heard that it's almost as good as the real Photoshop.

What photo editing did you do to the pictures? I really want to find a good program that will blur the background and keep the subject in focus....
