Default Softening Edges

I'm using Photoshop Elements. And I've pretty much got the removing the background part down pat. But what do you guys do to soften the edges of the product so it doesn't look so hard on the edges?

I use Microsoft Picture It! Express 7.0
This software comes with the laptop when we bought it.

Have you tried inverting it and then using Gaussian Blur? You could also use Picnik to soften the edges.

Could you please share what method you use to remove your background? I've tried lots of methods, but I still can't figure out which is the best or the most accurate.
