Default Removing Background Problems

I need help please. I've figured out how to remove the background in my photos by using the paths tool, I just can't figure out how to soften the bow edges. They look so choppy and pointed! Could someone please point me in the right direction? I used Gimp to remove background, but I also have ACDSee and can use Picnik.

I don't have those programs, but for photoshop you would want to refine edge and then adjust feathering, contrast, expand etc. maybe your programs are similar?

I'm not sure what editing program you are using...but in Photoshop you would need to select the bow (without the white background) and paste into a new image as a layer...And then apply a style to the layer, using the inner glow...
Here's my take on it...
