I only know Paintshop Pro, and it doesn't take too many.

Really, it's probably basically the same thing no matter what program you use though. No matter what, the best thing to do is to take the pic on white paper or posterboard in bright, but not direct sunlight. Then you use a feathering (fading) option to just erase out the corners. Crop, resize, and you're done.

I use Gimp and it does take a while. I also have irfanvview and would like to know how to do it there.

Do you like how my fish turned out? If so, I could tell you the steps I took. There may be a better way to do it, but it's the only way I know

I think your fish looks awesome. I would like the steps. Check out my site I'm working on, Boutique-29.com. The products that I whited out were done in Gimp. I think the edges are still too jagged.

Pretty please with a cherry on top!?! I need steps too! Here is a picture I took on white fabric and tried to white out the background some, but it's hopeless....

I like to use photo suite, it´s great and you can do all sorts of things with the pictures.

I am going to try Picasa when I get home and I am going to try gimp also. Sry it has taking me so long to write back, we are now being watched at work with what we do so it's hard to get on here, I love the fish whited out!

here are the step for what I do in Irfanview

Download Irfanview

Click “file”
Click “open” and choose a picture from your computer, works best with one taken on a white background.

You may then need to zoom in or out to see your picture.

Click Edit, then “show Paint Dialog”

You should now see the box on the side

Click the eraser icon and adjust the pixel width. I like to start with it big and erase the bulk of the background first

Then I zoom in and reduce the width (px) and get closer to the edge

Then I zoom in closer and reduce the width even more and get right up to the edge

I zoom in and out to see what it looks like.

When you are satisfied, click “file” and “save as” and save to your computer.

If anyone has a better way to do it, I am all for it!!! I am no computer wiz and just kind of made this up through trial and error!

OK...I just downloaded gimp and tried the above picture (probably not a good one to start off with) and I used the link above for the tutorial. I'm trying to attach a picture....
any other suggestions?

Thanks, How did you get your edges so clean? I tried it in irfanview and still really jagged.
