I do the same thing with patterns. Been crocheting for years but just recently wanted to make some hats but the patterns I like you have to buy. Any advice on how to make the hats would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much

What kind of advice are you looking for? If you need a starting point, purchase a basic hat pattern and just improve on it. If you can do the same thing I can do with figuring out patterns, then you can use that to make your own pattern. Sometimes, I will look through afghan patterns to see if I like any of the design elements, then I'll incorporate that into the hat, kwim?

Thank you didnt think of that. There are so many cute stitches that would make some cute hats. Iam just a little concerned about getting the proper sizes.

I test mine on my 1 year old son and adjust from there. He's got a pretty big noggin' so I use him for my 2-3 year old sizing. When crocheting a cap, it's circumference should be about 1.5" smaller than the standard head circumference for that age group (to accommodate stretching). Also remember that acrylic yarns are a lot stiffer than wool and other natural blends.

Very cute! I still can't finish the beanie I started, it has since turned into a cocoon. LOL
