Default Trading with photographers question!

I have a friend who is starting a photography business with her husband. I wanted to talk to her about trading props for pictures. How do you work this out? I'd give her bows, tutus, maybe even some pillowcase dresses, and then I was thinking she'd give me pictures to use in return. So she'd get pictures for her portfolio plus actual props to keep using. What about the actual model? Do the models usually get their pictures for free? So its kinda like a three way trade? I guess the model would have to know (or the parents I guess) that the pictures would be used on a website?? Anyway, if you could give me some insight as to how you work this out I'd appreciate it! I don't want to approach her about it until I understand how it works myself. LOL

This is how I do it. I keep the items being modeled in exchange for photos. I have all clients sign a model release for use of the pictures for advertising purposes etc....As far as free pictures. It depends on the client flow. I may have to put out a casting call for ages needed or use friends children. I usually waive my session fee for the models, but if they want they can order pictures!
