I have a Nikon D40X. I love it!! It's a digital SLR, so it's on the pricey side, but it's completely worth it. I had many cameras before this one and they just couldn't keep up with my kids. The long and short of it is that the compact sized cameras don't have a great response time, no matter how good the camera is (I had a great Nikon Collpix before this camera). I needed something that could capture the smile and not the ghost like figure running out of the pic.

Good luck. I hate camera shopping.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The Easy Share is pretty user friendly, but not great for catching kiddie pictures. I don't know how many times I have taken a picture and it snaps the second AFTER I wanted it too. I'd love to get the Canon Digital Rebel. Maybe someday....

We had a Kodak and just bought a new camera a couple of weeks ago. We buoght the Cannon PowerShot. I love it. It has a setting on it for kids and pets. I took it to my sons b-ball game and got some good action pics with it.

I have the Canon SD 1000. It's a great camera and is so slim, it fits right in your pocket. We've thought about and SLR, but they are so bulky that I wouldn't want to heft it around and would be afraid of it getting damaged or lost when out with the kids. The Canon has a setting for portraits, landscapes, and extreme close-ups. Look on eBay - you can get new-in-box cameras (not rebuilds) packaged with large memory cards and a case for less than buying in the store.

I have cannon s? IS. IS is to help you get clear picture. The normal camera, when the exposure time is longer than 1/60 second, you have to use a tripod otherwise the picture is blur. The IS camera, I can get very clear picture when it's 1/15 second. Great for taking picture of hair bows. And there is another function which I meant to use but never did: you can take 3 pictures by press shutter once.

I have the Rebel XTi - I just bought 2 new lenses for it and I'm looking for a third. Within 2 years, I am hoping to upgrade.
