You could also get a piece of white posterboard to shoot your item on or make a homemade lightbox- see link below... Home made light box If you don't have photo editing software I highly recommend The GIMP GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program It is FREE open source editing software that is comparable to Photoshop. It takes some time to learn-I am still learning- but the possibilities are endless...

I prefer white backgrounds since my clips are so many different colors. I used to stress about this. I have a lightbox and use a white sheet backdrop for now. I take my pics on the digital macro setting. They still don't look that crisp so I crop and edit them in photoshop, which is a must. After trial and error since PS is SO complex, I finally figured out the easiest way to get a crisp white background with one click. Go to ENHANCE, then Adjust Lighting, Levels. Click on the white dropper (there should be 3 - black, gray and white) and then click anywhere on your background. That should do it. If you still need to tweak, then use the manual toggle tool on the same screen. Its time intensive since you really need to do it for every picture but I think its a necessity for them to look professional.

I have found the joys of a new tool... Magic extractor.... everyone goooo oooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh wwwwwwoooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww LOL I think Im tired... or the codine cough syrup is getting to me...
magic extractor is in the Image tab on top... at the very bottom... click it you then have 2 colors red and blue click/draw red on anything you want to stay visible just a few dots is plenty and then click the blue anywhere you want to disapear...dont forget shadows... click preview... hit anywhere you might have missed... then you can click OK and viola your image is now floating... you can then use your magic wand to isolate it then fill with your color of choice for the background... LOL I have been using my magic wand for this and it is time consuming LOL... whoot this is much faster... If Im the only one that didnt know about this then LOL
