Default How do you get rid of shadows?

I take my pics outside on a white backdrop, but lots of my pics have shadows around the item. Does anyone know how to either prevent them or how to remove them in Gimp?

To prevent shadows, you need a light box: http://www.hipgirlclips.com/store/in...oducts_id=2950

Or you can edit the image to have the back ground removed like these:

It removes all the unwanted background. Not only shadows.

There's a free software GIMP can be used to edit images.

Thanks

I found a cheap trick to help with lighting: If your camera has a flip up flash (like the Canon Rebel EOS, what I have) then take a business card and cut slits into it to slide over the flash. I use scraps of photopaper because of the high gloss. It will diffuse the light, bouncing it up and around your item for a softer flash. Should help cut down or even eliminate the shadows all together. The first link is my picture showing how the trick works, and the second is the link to the site that I got the trick from.

If you want to continue taking pictures outside, time of day is a big factor too. When the sun is high in the sky, or bright, you will have more shadows. The best lighting is either early morning (1-2 hours after sunrise), evening (1-2 hours before sunset), or cloudy/overcast days. I agree, a lightbox helps a lot!

If you use natural light for your photos, I suggest getting in a shaded area where there is no direct sunlight. This is what causes shadows. Or you can also purchase a cheap photo reflector on ebay to block out some of the direct sunlight.
