Default 5th Instruction Contest-Tutu Bun Covers

DISCLAIMER: This is an *original* creation from my little brain-I've never found them in a store & I have searched the net to see if anyone makes these (yet), and I haven't found any-but I'm sure someone, somewhere at somepoint has thought of this, too. Here's my take on a dance bun cover.

Supplies:

Fishnet Tights
Double-Faced 1/2 in. Satin Ribbon
Liquid Stitch
Pink Tulle (off the bolt about 1 foot folded/6-in rolls probably about 1 to 2 yards),
Scissors
Needle & Thread
Lighter
Parchment/Wax Paper
Rhinestone & Glue Gun or E6000
Elastic Cord
Measuring Tape
Alligator Clip

Step 1-Use the spool to cut the fishnet tights into a 3-inch circle.

Step 2: Place your cut out onto parchment paper and apply Liquid Stitch (or your method of "fray check") to the edge of circle. Let dry about 30 minutes.

Step 3: Cut out 10 inches of Double-Faced Satin Ribbon and make a Tails-Down Bow

Step 4: Cut Tulle. I used approximately 15 strips that measured 6 inches by 3 inches. If you use the bolts, I cut off 2 six-inch strips and then wrapped tulle around the cardboard insert that came with the tights (see picture below)and then cut both sides.

Step 5: Weaving Elastic

Cut a 7 inch piece of elastic cord, and take your now dry fishnet circle and start lacing around the circle-I went through about every third hole.

When you get about half way around, take the alligator clip and clip the starting end to the tights.

When you make it all the way around to the other end, tie a double knot and trim elastic.

Step 6: Tie those tulle strips!
Decide which side is your top, and tie a tulle strip to the elastic that is on top of the bun cover. Tie tulle in a double knot.

Continue until you have tied a piece of tulle to every bit of elastic that is showing on the top of your circle and you get this:

Step 7: Sew on your bow!
Find where you knotted the elastic and sew the bow onto that part-sew through tights, elastic knot and back of bow to secure. I have also found that tacking the back of the loops to the bun cover helps to keep the bow straight and looking good!

Step 8: Add a rhinestone to the center of the bow for a little bit of sparkle!

The left is using the dimensions above and is for a small bun, about 2-inches in diameter.
Here are the dimensions for the larger bun cover used to cover a BIG BUN about four inches wide and at least 1 inch high:
Fishnet tights circle=5 inch diameter (trace a CD)
Elastic cord= 10 inches
Same size bow, same size strips of tulle

And here are my models:

**I should have trimed the tulle, but the girls were so excited to go out and do ballet, they didn't let me-you can see a couple of straggles in the pictures!
Hope you enjoy this! These took about 15-20 minutes each (not counting dry time for liquid stitch). These instructions are for your personal use, or for you to make and sell-please just don't post instructions on other forums !

*Sorry, wanted to add, I had a really hard time finding fishnet tights right now-tried all department stores and ended up at a costume shop to get white ones. HTH

Very cute! But, I must say that as I was going through the instructions I was trying to figure out how I was going to get the circle on her bottom. Then I figured out it wasn't that kind of "bun". LOL
