Mermaid Clip Instructions

By: Stacey Sharp

1 Alligator Clip
1 High Temperature Glue Gun with Glue Sticks
1 Pair of Scissors
1 Ruler
1 Lighter
Ribbon:
  • Head - 1 ” Peach or Cream
  • Body – 1 ” Peach or Cream
  • Arms - 2” Peach or Cream
  • Hair - 2 ” Red Shirt - 1” Purple
  • Top Tail - 2” Green
  • Bottom Tail - 1 3/8” Green
  • Clip - 4 ” Color of Your Choice
*All ribbon is 3/8” Grosgrain

Step 1: Heat seal all of the ends of the Ribbon
To heat seal the ribbon, hold the ribbon in one hand and the lighter in the other. Carefully approach the end of the ribbon with the flame, until it starts to melt. Quickly move lighter along the entire edge of the ribbon until it is completely sealed.

Step 2: Line your Alligator Clip
Run a thin line of glue down the center of the ribbon, for approximately 1”.


Glue the ribbon on the inside upper part of the clip. To do this, pinch the clip open and insert the ribbon, glue side up, into the center of the clip; close the clip, gluing the ribbon to the upper inside. Then, open the clip and press the ribbon to form a good seal.

Apply a line of glue to the entire length of the clip. Quickly wrap ribbon along the length of the clip, lining it up with the edge of the clip. Press firmly on the ribbon making sure to get rid of any air bubbles.

Continue to wrap ribbon around to the back of the clip. Place glue approximately ” from the end of the ribbon, and attach it to the clip

Step 3: Body

Take the piece of ribbon for the body, 1 1/2'” Peach or Cream 3/8” Grosgrain, and place it in front of you. This will be the piece that you attach the following pieces to.


Step 4: Head
Glue the ends of the ribbon, 1 ” Peach or Cream 3/8” Grosgrain, together. Overlap approximately 3/8”, this will form a loop.


Step 5: Body
Glue head to the top end of the body ribbon, placing the seam on the head against the body.


Step 6: Shirt

Attach the shirt to the Body right below the Head. To attach the shirt, glue one end of the purple ribbon to the back of the Body; wrap ribbon around the body and glue the other end to the back of the body.

Step 7: Arms
Take peach ribbon with one end in each hand. Twist the end in the left hand 180 degrees counter clockwise.


Place a dot of glue in the fold and press.


Glue the arms to the back of the body centering them directly behind the shirt.

Cut arms at an angle and heat seal them.

Step 8: Top Tail
Take one end of green ribbon and glue it on the front of the body at an angle.


Wrap the ribbon around the back of the body, gluing it parallel and touching the bottom of the shirt.

Continue wrapping the ribbon around the front of the body, crossing the end that is already glued to the front of the body. Make sure the edges are flush with each other. You may need to trim excess ribbon and heat seal.


Step 9: Tail Bottom

Make a fold identical to Step 7 with the green ribbon.

Glue bottom tail to the back bottom of top tail. Cut ends at angle and heat seal


Step 10: Hair
Glue one end of red ribbon to left arm, leaving approximately 3/8” below the arm.


Wrap ribbon up over the head and glue.


Continue to wrap ribbon down the back of the head, and glue it to the back of the right arm.

Cut the ribbon at an angle and heat seal.

Step 11: Connect bow to ribbon
Place strip of glue along the back of the arms, and attach to clip.

Your bow is now finished. Good job!
