Fold Over Elastic headband tutorial--5th Instruction Contest

You will need:

Your desired length of WOVEN FOE. I use 12" for a newborn, 15" for 4-12 months and 17" for 12 months to 3 years.

A needle and thread

hot glue or decent fabric glue

a small piece of ribbon to make your headband interchangeable. The length of the piece of ribbon will depend on the width of your FOE.

A clippie to add to the headband when finished.




Join the two right sides of the elastic together and run a lighter across to create a seal for stitching.



Then begin sewing the ends of the elastic together with the shiny side on the inside. It doesn't have to be perfect The idea is to have an extra support so that the headband doesn't come apart when stretched.



This is what it will look like when stitched




Run a line of glue accross the seam on the wrond side of the elastic and place your piece of ribbon on it



Bring the elastic across the right side but don't glue. You want to make a space to put your clippie in.







And then glue on top of inner side again on top of ribbon



You now have an interchangeable headband which you can embellish with whatever clippie you want.



And the finished product!

I get mine from Kathy's lace and elastic outlet on ebay. She has a yahoo group as well. SHe has a brilliant selection and her prices are always great PLUS she NEVER overcharges me on shipping and she's lady

Ah thanks Nicole. She's a little doll and the best thing is she lets me brush her hair!!!!! She wouldn't keep anything in it for ages but she's getting better. I've started putting too little piggytails in it with 2 bows and she walks the catwalk.............LOL!!!!!!!!!!
