~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi, can anyone please give me the instructions on how to attach ribbon to the waist or chest along with a bow in the center of the ribbon like the one that Nicole26 has on her pic. Nicole your daughter is beautiful, cute, & adorable and she has a wardrobe to match her personallity. You must be very proud of her.
the way Ronda described it is exactly the way I have done it. Fusing the ribbon onto the t-shirt allows much easier sewing. I undo the side seams and overlock (serge) the ends in the side seam for a neater finish.
have tried to upload a picture for you, but the upload keeps failing - sorry. If you go to this link you should be able to see it: Image of Leopard Ribbon T/Shirt - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I made this to match Glamour Kitty. Eda D.C |
Not at all-just use a seam ripper and be careful not to catch the jersey. I made one the other night and it took me about 5 min to rip out the seams and then about an hour if that to make the shirt. |
Thank you ladies very much for the info. Eda D.C thanks for taking the time to list a pic. Your shirts are all really nice! I hope to be able to make one for my DD.
No Worries, I was inspired by all the creative ladies here - mind you I don't have a daughter yet, but her wardrobe & bow collection is bursting at the seams!
I are very impatiently waiting for our 3rd child from China - have 2 gorgeous boys from Korea though!! Eda |
Eda she's one lucky girl! oh yeah, I made a ribbon shirt and it looks very nice but the only thing is that I don't have a serger so instead I used a honeycomb stitch. Is that good or should I have used some other stitch to close up the opening for the ribbon? Sorry for all the dumb questions "Spoken like a true sewing rookie" LOL.
most newer sewing machines have an 'overlocking' stitch - check the instruction book for the description of the stitches. The old fashion way is:
unpick seam feed ribbon through straight stitch on the same line as the inner line the shirt zigzag stitch the open side of the seam to give it a good finish. give it a good steam press with the iron to make it look like it was always a ribbon shirt! This is the way I was taught by my mum, and she sewed heaps and never had a serger. Eda ![]() |
Thanks Eda!!! Now I can sleep better! My 1'st ribbon shirt came out nicely but I made it on a shirt that my dd had already outgrown. Thanks to you I can now make a new ribbon shirt knowing that I'm going to to all the right things next time around.
