~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey guys... I was just wondering if anyone ever uses a ruffler foot on their sewing machine? I thought it would be great, went to hancocks, spent 30 bucks on one made by creative sewing solutions and I have to say--it's crap! 1.) there are NO INSTRUCTIONS!! I had to go online to see how I was supposed to use it and 2.) It doesn't work! I have it set on every stitch and it misses about 2/3 of them!!
Has anyone tried one of these things? Maybe I should just take that one back and go buy a Brother one--they are about the same $$...
My favorite method for ruffling/gathering has become the 'Dental Floss Method,' which is why my ruffler foot is sitting around gathering dust. Just lay a piece of dental floss on top of the fabric along the line you need gathered and zig-zag stitch over it, being sure not to sew through the floss. Then, pull on the dental floss through the zig-zag 'tunnel' to get perfect gathers that you can then sew onto whatever you're gathering. It works great for multiple layers of fabric and thick fabrics, or just regular cottons, etc. ![]()
I have a ruffler and if they come with directions they are very vague. I haven't used mine in such a long time. I usually do it without the machine. My serger has a ruffler as well and it is easier to use than the one I bought for my sewing machine. If I remember correectly you have to go slow. I don't know if that will help you, but give it a try.
Thanks Guys--I did go and get the other foot and I must say that it does work better... but the 'perfect gathers' it advertises are a long shot, maybe after a little practice I can get better with it (stitch length/speed/etc...) but I had never thought about dental floss! I've always used elastic cording or double basting (Pain in the you-know-what!)...I'll have to try it tonight!
