Fun tee-shirt ideas

Has anyone seen any fun tee-shirt ideas lately? Something to dress it up. Like say you put an applique and then add something else too. I've seen ruffles at the bottom and on the sleeves. And of course adding ribbon across the chest. But has anyone seen or done anything else?

I was thinking of weaving a small ribbon in and out near the bottom and tying a bow on one side. I was worried about the stretchy-ness not working as well, though. Has anyone done something like that?

I had a friend of mine back in highschool who was using ribbon and paint to decorate t-shirts. She would make balloons in the upper righthand corner with paint. Then after drying she would use 1/4" ribbon and anchor it with a stitch to the balloon and then twist and then anchor it again with a stitch. She wold do this all the way dwn to the hem of the shirt. Near the bottom she would have them collected in a way and then put a cute bow on the ribbon "strings" of the balloons. It was a hot seller for a couple of years for her.

I don't sew, but once I cut a small slit in the hem of the tshirt on the side. Then you run a piece of ribbon through the hem and tie a bow on the side. It dresses up a plain tshirt a little.

For my DD's bday pics I am taking a white tank top and a doily that I got from the dollar store and stitching it to the front of the tank top. I'm gonna stitch a bow and maybe some tulle to the top and she's gonna wear it with a pink pettiskirt and pearls. If I have time, I might try dyeing the doily pale pink or something. But that might be an idea. Also, stenciled or faux-silk screening a chandelier silhouette is also a cute idea.

Cute ideas, guys, thanks! On the ribbon in the hem, did you find it was ok to put the shirt on and wear still? I want to try something like that but am worried about putting the non-stretchy ribbon in the stretchy shirt, ya know?

Yes. You just use enough ribbon to make a bow and a little to hang down. When you put it on, untie the bow and then tie it however tight you may want it to be once you get it on. I think the 5/8" ribbon works just right. Be sure to seal the ends of the ribbon so it doesn't fray.

Those are lovely! Does the tulle stand up to washing? Or do you need to wash it in a lingerie bag/pillowcase?

I want to make a tank top for my niece for her birthday to match her bows I'm going to make, but wasn't sure if it will hold up to washing, or if I can give special instructions.
