There's a yahoo group that has someone who made directions for the tutu dress. You might see what you can find there. I'd probably just buy the instructions- I think they were about 10 bucks. Not too shabby!
You have a couple options for buying tulle in bulk: 1) I prefer tulle on the bolt. I can buy tulle at a fabric warehouse in Dallas and they sell tulle at 60 cents a yard. You may investigate your area and see if there is a fabric warehouse. 2) You can buy tulle at someplace like Hobby Lobby. Use your 40% off coupon and buy whatever you want (even the whole bolt). Using their coupon, their price will approximate wholesale. The drawback is that you can only buy 1 color at a time. 3) United Beads sells tulle. They discount your order by 10% ( I think) when you buy 12 or more of the same type item. You can mix colors to get the discount. They sell tulle on the spool, but I'm not sure how many yards it is. Hobby Lobby has tulle on spools and it's 25 yards per spool (anyone want to share how many yards is on UB?). They put it on sale pretty regularly at 1.99 for matte tulle, and 2.99 for shimmery tulle. Hope that helps!

I didn't see anyone mention how to cut the tulle straight so I thought I'd let you know that it ends up cheaper by the bolt rather than getting it on a spool. Those take A LOT of tulle, and the easiest way to cut it straightis to use a rotary cutter and a big cutting mat. You can see the lines on the cutting mat through a few layers of tulle, so you can cut more than one layer at a time. The great thing is, the lines don't have to be absolutely perfect since you can't tell once the strips are on the tu-tu anyway!

i use a piece of cardboard to keep my 2 rings of elastic even.
i usually use bolt tulle. wait until it is on sale at joanne fabrics for .50 a yard and buy a full bolt. |
