I wanna make some embroidery letters on ribbon and fabric but have no idea how much they cost. I just want a very basic one to do mainly letters. Does anyone have any idea how much they are and can you recommend one? Thanks. I have no clue in this area.

The cheapest one that I know of is the Brother 270D Amazon.com: Brother SE270D Computerized Sewing and Embroidery Machine: Home & Garden . Wal-mart also sells this machine. But remember you also have to figure in the cost of a thread set ($100-300), stabilizer, and this machine will need either a PED Basic or something like an Ulitimate Box ($100-200) if you want to use other designs and fonts other than what is already on the machine (which isn't much).

I started out with this machine but now I have the brother 2500D which can embroider up to 6x10 and uses a usb stick so I don't need the PED basic.

I believe there is a Singer that is also under $1000 but I don't know anything about Singers. Brother also makes an embroidery only that can do up to 5x7 for under $1000.
