Default Local Advertising - do you do it?

I am wondering if it is worth it to place an ad in our high school (rural county - only one high school) football and cheerleading program. I know a lot of people just buy an ad for goodwill etc., but since I make some things very specific to the school and mascot; I thought it might be a good way to advertise. Folks love their football here. The price is $100/full page; $75 half page and $50 quarter page. My husband is a graphic designer so he caould make me an awesome ad.

Also, we have a small newpaper - more like a gossip rag - that everyone on the county reads (circ. 4500). A decent size ad (6" sqaure) would cost $99 for one run. Do you think that's worth it?

I wouldn't suggest doing the newspaper unless you are willing and able to pay for continuous ads over a period of time. One ad will not help for the most part. Repetition and exposure will help, but it would be a big investment.

I used to coordinate the advertising for a real estate firm. Some wanted to put money into one big ad and I had to say that that will not help. They would be better off running a smaller ad for a longer period of time. If you think about it, there are probably a couple r.e. agents in your area who advertise constantly and all over the place. These are the people that stay in your mind. If they only did one ad, you probably would not remember their name, let alone their phone number or website.
