Default Ribbon sculpture ??

I have been debating about purchasing a few ribbon sculptures tutorials. What tools will I need to do most of the sculptures? I tried using my wood burner again last night, and I really stink at it. So, if that's what I'll need to use to heat seal, IDK....
I also haven't purchased any because most of them are mounted on alligator clips, right? I HATE alligator clips in my DD's hair. Even if I put those grips on the inside, the clip never stays put. Most of the time when the tut calls for a clip, I use a small French barrette instead.

Personally, I think ribbon sculptures are awesome! I heat seal my ends with a lighter, I've never used a wood burner in my life. I also hate ally clips in my oldest dd's hair. I don't always use sculptures only on clips, I like to use them as bow centers too

Do you use another heat source (such as a lighter) or do you use some sort of
"fray check"?

For most of my sculptures you do not need a wood burning tool, I lighter works just as good. There are a few things that a wood burner works better for as far as shaping, but not necessary. I'm always happy to answer any questions about if a sculpture can be done with out it easily, just shoot me a message! Here is my tutorial section, I currently have 22 listings:

I purchased the NoBo..NoGo tutorial on this message board (see paid subscriptions) and I love them! They're really easy to make but you have to have patience and be handy with a glue gun. I taught my step-mother how to make them and she is doing fantastic! I seal with a lighter. My Step Mom uses a wood burning tool. The wood burner really helps for the princesses who require "V' cut edges (it hard to get the V shape when you seal with a lighter. Once you get into a groove, you can alter them they way you like them. I created this Mrs. Claus using the body of Cinderella. I just changed to colors!

P.S. Get a click-flick lighter. If you use the old school metal roller lighter, your thumb will start hurting after a while.

Good Luck! Dont forget to share pics of your designs :-)

I've tried my hand at 15 or so different ribbon sculptures and don't have a wood burning tool (yet), so they definitely aren't necessary for some (9 princesses a lightning mcqueen, buzz lightyear, and a few seasonal ones). As I'm practicing more and checking out different things I want to try you can see which ones are definitely more complex and would be hard to burn with a lighter. But many are totally doable without one. I'd imagine most of the ladies selling tuts would be helpful in letting you know whether they think one is needed for theirs. :-)

I have another question...
I see lots of Princess clippies. Is Disney okay with that? Is it legal to sell them?
