Tutu help

I want to make a tutu for my daughter this week, which means I need to buy some at the fabric store(our store does not sell it on spools). And I'd rather not order online. So, how many yds on the bolt should I buy for 1 tutu? 5yd?

What size is she? I would say at least 5 and probably more like 7 if you want a full tutu. It is only about 1.00 a yard. I would rather have more than less. Have fun.

If it helps at all, I just did tutus for twins who were 4 and I used 8 yards on each one. they were nice and poofy

Anyone have some tricks for cutting tulle into strips when it's off of the bolt and not on a spool?

When I cut them off the bolt into strips I roll it up, keeping it as straight as I can lengthwise, and then I can cut each piece with just one or two cuts, then just cut them the length you need. You can fold it a few times first to cut down on cutting but it is harder to keep the cuts straight.
