I think the best tip for a wood burner is, be quick. The slower you are and the longer you hold it in one spot the more it melt or burns. Another awesome thing about the wood burner is if you have little hot glue strings everywhere that you can't seem to get off you can just over the tip (not touch) over the glue and it disappears

Hi all,
Thanks for sharing all these tools. I am very new at making bows and I hope someone here can help me.
I need to know that which way is the safest and healthiest way to seal the edges. I make hair bows when my little infant baby was sleeping in our only 1 bedroom. I have been very worried that the smoke from the solider/ burner will do bad to her.
Also, is the smell from the glue gun bad too?

disparately need help. !!!!!!!!!!!Thank you in advance.

Hi! My wood burner does not smoke or have any odor when I'm just doing ribbon. If I use it to melt the plastic loops off the back of buttons then it smokes and makes a very bad smell. So I would think if you are just doing ribbon you shouldn't have a problem.
My hot glue gone doesn't smell either. I kinda wish it did so I would know when I leave it on accidentally.
I hope I helped.

It didn't ring a bell when you mentioned it first time. It can be used to melt the back of the cup cake ring to turn the ring into a bow center.

Here is the link of the cupcake ring--hello kitty. I think it's better than bottle cup.

I like to use fray check to seal my bows. It works great for me and it is easier for me.

My burner actually came with a stand. I hot glued my stand to the table cuz it moved a lot, problem solved. I have dropped it on occasion but have only burned myself once.

Default Having trouble finding metal ruler!!

HI Michelle, I went to wallmart to look for the metal triangle ruler, and I could not find it there. So i went to Michaels, ACMOORE, and Lowes and I still could not find it!! Is the one you posted below the size you need? Would love some help. What to other people use with the Wood burning tool?

Just wet the ribbon at where you are going to cut first. I heard that somebody pure fray check to a bowl, cut the ribbon, and dip the ribbon end into fray check. If you need to seal huge amount of ribbon ends, it's a good idea.

2. Use the heat seal tool sold at RABOM--perfect thread burner. The tool was designed for sealing polyester thread. If you are a professional bowmaker, you don't want it since it's not good at handling large amount. If you only make bows for your kids, you don't want it since it's expensive.

3. Use the wood burning tool+metal ruler+metal pan (all can be purchased at Walmart). Put the ribbon on the pan, use ruler as guide, cut and seal in a single step. V-cut? Use the angle ruler as in the link below.

The smell is terrible though. And not portable. I read somewhere that there is a battery operated wood burning tool. Anybody know where to purchase?

4. Use lighter. Hold the lighter steady, take the ribbon end near flame and move. Need practice.

5. When you cook, use the stove flame. Hold the ribbon and swipe it in (not near) the flame, just like you swipe your credit card through machine. The edge seals like magic. V-cut? No problem, 1 swipe does it all.

I got mine when I was 15 in China. I'm not sure where to purchase it . Any size will do.

I've been looking for the metal ruler too. Walmart did have one but it was metal with paint on it so I passed on it. They do make metal rulers called "squares" that I'm sure would work fine. They are more of a triangle but have straight edges so it should work. Right now I don't use anything with my wood burner and I'm doing alright.
