Default Woven headband help

I have been making woven headbands and I am pretty pleased with the outcome...although, I find the finishing rather frustrating. It looks neat and all, but I guess between the heat sealing and the hot glue, it makes the ends kind of scratchy. My daughter occassionaly complains that it's uncomfortable behind her ears.
Thoughts/ideas on how to make them more comfortable, and still look neat? I had thought maybe wrapping the ends with a coordinating velvet ribbon, but I still have to attach it, so then there's the heat sealing/glue issue again.

I take a nail file and file any spots that seem really scratchy...

I cut the tail ends a bit longer than they need to be, then I fold them under and glue them so that no raw edges are exposed, only a folded edge remains and it looks like I did some fancy inter-weaving thing, but really I just folded the last edge over.

I will try that. But how on earth do you keep from burning yourself with the glue gun?
