Default Questions on Spikes

Ok, when you are making spikes, at what point do you do your v -cuts and heat seal?

Do you cut and heat seal before you assemble the pieces or after once the spikes are all together?

Also, any suggestions on speeding up spikes would be much appreciated!!!!

I can't imagine doing them after I assemble them, I would be afraid I would cut the wrong one or the wrong way and have to start the whole thing over.

I have a cool tool that helps with spikes, I think it is called PET -perfect end template?, but it needs a woodburner and I haven't bought one yet (yeah I know, but the ribbon is so pretty I end up buying it first!)

Spikes are on my hate list, I do them, but not with any kind of pleasure!

I cut mine after I run my thread through the center of all of my spikes. Then I space them as I want them, sew through it again, wrap and make a crease. I usually end up needing to re-do a couple of the spikes that are too long, the ones on the outer ends always end up to long for me.

I cut mine before I sew. I fold them in half and do. 45 degree cut and heat seal. Then I fold each in half and pinch to perfectly center when I sew.

Once you do a certain bow long enough, you can find that "perfect" measurement for your spikes.....Once I found mine I started making my vcuts and sealing before I put them together. Before I figured it out though, I did put my bows together then make my cuts.

I cut the appropriate length then sew then cut and seal my v's. Many things can go wrong by doing it after you assemble it.

Spikes are the devil! I really don't like making them and even try to do some bows without, but they just dont look as good. I have tried several different ways to do them, and haven't found one easier then another. Some of the ladies on here have the most even, gorgeous spikes! I wish I knew thier secret. But i cut, stack, and sew mine then when the bow is assembled I do any necassary trimming.

Its funny that so many hate spikes. They don't bother me lol korking ribbon on the other hand.... Anyway I glue my spikes then cut the v and seal. Sometimes they are not perfectly even so if I was to cut my spikes first I would probably have to cut again using more precious time. HTH

I cut them all before I assemble anything. Once they are cut and sealed I then sew them and assemble the bow.
