Default Singled Flowers

Why do I keep turning my edges black? No matter how brief I hold the flame on the fabric it still turns black!

What the heck am I doing wrong?

This should say SINGED flowers lol.

What kind of fabric are you using? Poly satin works best for me. I use it and just go very slow. I know some people use a candle, but I prefer a lighter. It gives me a little more control so I don't burn the edges. They are fun to make, but there is a little of a learning curve to see what works best for you.

I have been using a poly material..I guess it is what you would use for lining if making a garment...Do you think a true poly satin would work better?

It did for me. I was having problems and read on here to try that and it made the difference. It's just the inexpensive kind you get at Hobby Lobby, but it will say "poly satin".

Are you using a lighter or a candle? I used to use candles but it would leave smoke on the fabric. If you're using a lighter I don't have any suggestions, sorry.

I cannot use a candle, as I always catch my fabric on fire... .... or leave black marks on it. However, I have learned, while using a lighter (I use those long ones that are made for BBQing), if I set it so that it has the largest flame possible and put the fabric in the BLUE part of the flame, I don't get the black marks. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if it didn't and I will try to explain myself better

I do use a lighter...But I will try the change in fabric and also the blue part of the flame...Might make a difference.

It really is the most noticeable on the light colored fabric. Which happens to be the most popular...lol

I do think I agree its from the smoke.

I use a candle but I use one in a glass jar and the flame is really low in the jar so when I hold the fabric over the candle, it is really only the heat I am getting. I very occasionally burn one edge if I am distracted, but otherwise have no problems doing it this way.
