Default help with this flower please

i have attempted this rose so many times and cannot get it to look like this. i am using a knit pink fabric, serging the edge, gathering the other edge but not pulling tight and rolling but it will not look like this. anybody else make this that could clue me in please?

I haven't made that style personally, but do make a lot of the ribbon carnations. You seem to be already doing all the steps I would have suggested. Have you tried to vary the length of your fabric as well as the width of your gathering sticthes? I know that it make a big differnce when i'm working with my ribbon flowers. Wish I had more tips for you, hope someone else can help you out with this.

I'm not sure what you can do differently either. It looks to me like she is using wooly nylon serger thread, but I'm assuming, that's not the part you can't get right. Here's one where you can kind of see the bottom if that helps.

once i gather it - it looks like i shouldnt have gathered it at all. like hers is just rolled but that doesnt look right either! i have used tshirt knit and interlock knit - single and double layers. wrong! i make a ton of different flowers that take a several steps but this one looks so effortless and simple - its killing me!!!!

Hmm. That link didn't go to the photo that shows the bottom. It's the photo where it's just the headband. It is slightly gathered, but only slightly. I'm thinking once you get to the last round, you do it so that edge is not going around the outside of the inner layers, but kind of covers some of the bottom of the rose so it goes out around the rose rather than pointing up like the inner part.

i have wasted more fabric on this stupid flower!! i have tried the slight gathering but the first few rolls dont even look right. going to bump this back up in the hopes someone has the magic solution!
