Well everyone can always use a new piece of jewelry! I think boys could do this too by wrapping tinfoil on it and letting them 'engrave' into it and then use a permanent marker to antique it. Mark on, wipe off, mark on, wipe off.

Or remember the old leather trick cover it in torn pieces of layered masking tape and then make it look like leather. That could be cool for boys too. Photo of a pencil container below using that technique.

Great idea for the Christmas craft!! Glad you liked it!

Okay I have to say I am glad SOMEONE found this intriguing. I am a 'wannabe' techno nerd. I LOVE reading MAKE magazine but most everything in there is so beyond me....but I so badly want to be able to make some of those things.

The tie is something like you would find in there and it looked almost doable. If your male inhabitants make the tie/s.....I'd love to live vicariously through photos of their creations!

Thanks!
Jamie

Oh that is a much more realistic name for my 'to do' list....can I usurp it and use it too?

You know I was thinking (always dangerous when that happens) that if you wrapped the sticks around a tin can and secured with a metal wire, that you might be able to pop them into the oven and spead up the curing time. As I don't have the luxury of your Texas heat this time of year!

If anyone tries this and it works wouldyou please share it on this link!
Thanks,
Jamie

Yes that was exactly what I thinking Peggy! And the larger ones I know of are at my dd's pediatrician's office.....grape flavored tongue depressors! I bet a medical supply store would have them (minus the grape flavor).

Let me know if you Claire make some and what she thinks about her new bracelet!

I am going to try it tonight! I'll let you know how it turns out. I am thinking of setting the oven on really low heat and letting them bake in there for a while, maybe 30-40 mins?

Okay, so I tried it. I only broke one out of 8. I baked 1/2 of them at 170 degrees for 30 min and voila! Perfect! They are hard and holding their shape perfectly.

I am going to modge podge them but of course I forgot to get mode podge at the store tonight so that will be for another day.
