Krista, out of curiosity, what would you put your items in a boutique for? What split do you consider fair?

I could wholesale to them at higher than my retail and they would still be making a huge profit!!!

I really would consider asking about getting in to this shop, but seriously I dont think they will stay open long, this is a college town with only about 2,000 people. I dont think college students can afford or would pay $10 for a piece of elastic. The clothing they had was $200+ for a blouse, I think they are confusing our small town Main St. with Rodeo Drive.

this is a prime example why we should not price at what we would pay but at what the consumer will pay think about the stuff you buy retail...how much profit are they making? we have no idea- which is why we pay it

That's what I sell mine for too No problems selling at that price either.

It's all about business, consumers, including myself, think if a product price is to low that is cheaply made, so, if you can get the higher price, then why not?

Thus far I am only in 1 boutique and we do a 70/30 split, I get 70%, but I get to set my own prices too. So I just raise my prices on the items I send off to the boutique, they still sell well and I am making about 90% or more off my retail, but I figure at shows you still have to take out booth fee and websites you have to take out paypal and listing fess etc. so it isnt much different.

I have had a couple boutiques that have asked me about wholesale and we are working out details on this so I dont know if Iwill do it or not .

I sell mine for about $1.30 each hair tie, sets with printed FOE are about $1.40 each sometimes a bit more. I just purchased some dyes and will start tie dying them very soon. They are quick to make, I can make a set of 5, in about 5-7 minutes! Cut, knot and heat seal, a quick $6.50 for a few mins of my time, heck it's most than what others make in the boutique biz in 1 full hour of their time. I get tons of orders offline & now it's picking up in my Etsy. I also supply 3 B&M boutiques in the city with them, and I managed to sell them at my retail price, they sell it for double at 5 ties for $13.95 which to me is insane & ridiculous but they can get away with it though because they are high end stores.

It is all about who they are marketing to. There are women out there that feel the more they spend the better the product. So if you choose to do this make sure you are up and beyond par with your crafting skills.
