Default working with shabby chiffon flowers

I bought some at HL to fiddle arouond with and see if I could work with them. It is not as easy as you would think. Can anyone give me some tips on these things? How do you get the mesh trimmed close enough without cutting the flower? And what do you do about the unraveling? Right now they seem like too much trouble to mess with. I was going to buy some in a GB but now I am having second thoughts. TIA for any tips.

I went in HL and my DD had one I had bought on here on. The lady at the fabric counter was asking if I bought hers there because they sold them. I looked at theirs and the ones I looked at were not as nice as the the ones I got on here. You may have different ones than what I looked at. I have never had any problem with mine unraveling and love them. I do think they are a PAIN to trim. There was a thread on here about trimming them

Thanks for the help. I did a search but didn't come across that thread. It does answer lots of my questions. Maybe I will go ahead and order some, if there is a chance it could be better quality than HL's. I really hate crafting with inferior materials.

No problem. I had read the thread and had a hard time searching and finding it again. I am not surprised you didn't come across it. I would suggest ordering a few and see what you think.

I trim most of the mesh away with my regular scissors. Then I use embroidery scissors to get in between the petals (slightly tedious pita). Then the best tip I got from the other thread was using a lighter to quickly melt any mesh edges that are left. It works perfectly! Just be sure to do it quickly and not singe the fabric of the flower.

The ones taht HL carry are different than the ones we have been getting through GBs. Different supplier...HL's is not as pretty or fluffy as ours. I use my small fiskars to cut the trim mesh.
