welcome to hg
i have never done flips flps but i would think
you would just weave it maybe around like elastic or maybe a piece a paper
that you can pull out then hot glue or use e6000 to secure it. or try to weave around the flip flop part (not sure what it is called)

Well I tried it last night and I think when I glue it to the flip flop straps you have to do something different than the headband because mine came out HORRIBLE I guess I will try other ways to do it. Thanks for the help!

i did a pair for my daughter. i just glued the ribbon down at the center part (like where the toes go through) just like u would when starting braided headband. than i just did the braid or weave whatever u want to call it downward & than glued & tucked it into the flip flop at the foot part. than just repeat on the other half of the flip flop. u do get a loose braid at the top, but if u put a bow at the center u cant really c it. hth.

I may have to try it like that. I have kept trying and get so mad because it won't work. Thank you so much for the advise. I will try it and let you know how it goes!! what kind of glue did you use to glue the ribbon down?

What about doing it as a military braid? I bet that would be cute.
