Default how to make a bow out of fabric

Can anyone give me some advice as to how I can make a bow out of fabric? I was given a piece of fabric that is about 2" wide & a couple feet long. It is a piece left over from a dress & she wants a matching bow. I don't want the fabric frays to show, so do I need to sew it there? I have searched for tuts but haven't found any yet. Any advice at all or where I could find a tut, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check out Janet's tut: http://hipgirlclips.com/forums/ribbo...ml#post1099094 (loved this one....easy to follow...both tuts she has are great!)

Jeni's Tuts: http://www.etsy.com/listing/77254055...pdf-diy-fabric (loved this one...it was easy to follow...gorgeous flower)

Snazzies tuts: http://www.etsy.com/listing/65184387...flower-pattern ( this was kind of tough to get started on but I got it eventually and it is pretty)

All three ladies give excellent customer support and will answer questions if needed. Jeni has gone above and beyond out of her way to help me with questions. I have never asked Snazzie anything yet. Janet is very helpful as well and is on here quite often if you have any questions. Check them all out and see what style you like and then go for there. The only thing is on Snazzies...hers will tell you if they are meant for a beginner or more intermediate crafter. She really means it too...lol...as some of her intermediate flowers have kicked my butt and I am still trying to master. Jeni's and Janet's were more easier overall out of the three.

2" does not give you a lot of room to play with if you don't want the edges to show.

If she wants a true bow and not a flower, I think I would sew it into a tube first and then use that as "ribbon." A tuxedo bow would be cute and simple. Or you can make several tuxedo bows of different widths and then cinch them together in the middle. Depending on the material, you might be able to find a coordinating color and use that as the middle. There are free tutes for tuxedo bows.

Hi...I am sort of new on here...been stalking for a while, but I don't really post since I don't make regular bows.

I do however make fabric bows and flowers..my specialty!! I'd be happy to help you...just tell me what type of fabric it is and what you are looking to make..a bow..a flower....etc.. different fabrics lend themselves to different flowers.

I hope this helps...

Elisa

I also personally like the tutorials by asundaygirl on etsy. She does some nice ones. Fancyschmancy does too.

With the measurement you have on that fabric you can make a rolled rosette. Janet has a really good tut for that ( I posted her link in a previous post)

decided to use your words . . . hope you don't mind! you can also use a 1.5 - 1.75" piece of tulle as your backing & sew into a tube. or, you could use complimentary/contrasting fabric for the backing. if you use a width that's a bit shorter, it'll bring your seam to the inside . . . and if you really want to get fussy, you could then topstitch it.
